Extending your ATV’s Lifespan
It’s only natural that you’d want to get as much out of your ATV as possible. Luckily, routine maintenance and some common sense can go a long way towards helping your quad to last longer. If you’re interested in learning more about how to extend your ATV’s lifespan, check out this list of tips from Team WInnebagoland Powersports Center.
Change the Oil and Coolant
Oil helps your ATV’s moving parts to glide against each other instead of grinding or scraping, while coolant bleeds out of the engine. Both should be inspected and topped off on a regular basis. You should also keep an eye on your ATV’s radiator cap and cooling fan. The better you take care of the engine, the longer your ATV will last.
Clean Your ATV Regularly
Dirt and grime encourage long-term corrosion. Simply cleaning your ATV every once in a while can help discourage rusting, as well as help keep dirt and dust from clogging up your quad. As an added bonus, your ATV will look amazing!
Check the CV Belt
Many ATV models, though not all of them, utilize a CV belt transmission. A worn down belt is in danger of snapping. The bad news is that non-mechanics usually won’t be able to identify by sight if a CV belt needs to be replaced soon. If you start to notice performance issues or a burning rubber smell while riding your ATV, have a professional take a look at your belt.
Treat Your Fuel
Fuel left in your tank for extended periods of time can start to break down, thus clogging your fuel lines. This usually won’t be an issue unless you choose to put your ATV into storage for a long period of time. If this does happen, be sure to add fuel stabilizer to your tank.
Ride Wisely
Pushing an ATV harder will put more strain on the machine. By all means, enjoy riding your ATV to the fullest. Just be aware of your vehicle’s limits and try to limit aggressive braking/accelerating when it’s not necessary.
