Motorcycle Repair Tools
Routine motorcycle maintenance can help your bike to run better and last longer. The good news is that many examples of basic motorcycle maintenance can be performed at home if you have the right parts and tools. This guide from Team Winnebagoland Powersports Center can help you find the tools you need to keep your motorcycle running smoothly.
Packing the Toolkit
This list is meant to be a basic overview of the kinds of tools almost all motorcycle owners will find useful. Feel free to make additions and substitutions to this list as you see fit. If you’re unsure about anything, be sure to consult your owner’s manual.
Fold-Up Allen Wrench
Allen wrenches can be used to remove and tighten your motorcycle’s fasteners to grant access to the bike’s internal components. Fold-up allen wrenches are perfect for motorcycle maintenance on the go. Before you go shopping, take a look at the fasteners used in your motorcycle to make sure that the wrench will fit.
Flat Head Screwdriver
A thin, narrow flathead screwdriver will make navigating the tight spaces inside a motorcycle easier. Try to find one with a small magnet on the end if you can. This magnet can be used to retrieve lost fasteners without having to dig around inside your bike.
Pliers
Pliers help provide a stronger grip when you need to straighten, tighten, or loosen your motorcycle’s parts and fasteners. They’re also helpful in situations where getting a firm grip might be difficult.
Multi-tool
Mutti-tools are good to have in your mobile motorcycle toolkit since they save both space and weight by combining many tools into one. Find a multitool that has the kinds of attachments you need.
Battery Cables and Fuses
Battery cables and fuses are lightweight, easy to store, and can be used to fix a variety of common electrical system issues with your motorcycles. Make sure that you have the right kind of fuses before you put them in your motorcycle.
Flashlight
Flashlights are useful both for illuminating your motorcycle’s nooks and crannies and for doing repair work in the dark. Be sure to replace the flashlight’s batteries every once in a while, or find a crank-powered model.
